Definitely the best public course ever, can even say that Arizona National Golf Club beats at least 80% of all the private courses.
The design of the course is amazing, taking good advantage of the landscape and scenes, as to the condition of the course, nevertheless to say, the best ever, can totall tell how much effort they spend on management of the entire course.
Love Hole 18 the best, the steep after the tee box, and the lake in front of green and clubhouse, just amazing.
The fairways were nothing like pictured... very yellow n brown . Looked they hadn't watered in weeks. The sand was unworked and hard as a rock ... the greens were good shape but overall very disappointed 😞
The only plus side was the beautiful scenery provide by the mountains and setting sun.
Course was better than expected. The pro shop is small but very clean and fairly modern. There is a restaurant as well but can't speak to how good the food is. The staff was very friendly. The course was in good shape from tee to green. There are a fair amount of elevation changes and a few holes are a little quirky with forced carries and blind shots. Does require some thought and shot making skills on a few holes as well. I'm not sure why some of the locals I spoke with were not real thrilled with this course, but I really liked it and felt it compared well to some of the others that I played while on this trip.
This is my favorite course in Arizona period. The combination of risk and reward prevails across the whole layout, and the clubhouse is spectacular. Word to the wise, just try to land on grass on hole 4. Also the homeowners are cool.
I love this course! Some of the best views in the Tucson area. It's a challenging course, to be sure, but it's typically in great condition. If there's one downside, it's that the challenging nature slows down pace of play. This being said, the plusses far outweigh the minuses. If you want a chance to experience "true desert golf" in Tucson, this has to be near or at the top of the list !
Course was in great shape. Fantastic mountain views and challenging but fair layout. Best public track in Tucson!
Arizona National Golf Course: Tucson's Desert Gem
Imagine teeing off amidst the rugged beauty of the Santa Catalina Mountains, with sun-baked fairways snaking through canyons and skirting craggy outcrops. That's the magic of Arizona National Golf Course, a desert masterpiece carved into the foothills of Tucson. Designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones Jr., this 6,785-yard, par-72 course isn't just scenic; it's a strategic labyrinth that puts your golfing mettle to the test.
Challenge at Every Turn: Every hole at Arizona National presents a unique puzzle. Forced carries over ravines, blind shots around rock formations, and treacherous bunkers guard the lush greens. Accuracy takes precedence over brute force, rewarding thoughtful shot selection and precision over booming drives. But don't worry, the course offers tee boxes to cater to all skill levels, ensuring a fun and challenging experience for everyone.
Feast for the Senses: Beyond the greens, the desert landscape itself is a spectacle. Saguaro cacti stand like silent sentinels, casting long shadows as the sun dips towards the mountains. Hummingbirds dart between desert blooms, and the air carries the sweet scent of mesquite and creosote. Every hole feels like a postcard, a reminder of the raw beauty of the Sonoran Desert.
Beyond the Course: Arizona National isn't just about the golf. The 19th Hole restaurant offers a welcoming respite after your round, with a menu featuring fresh, local ingredients and panoramic views of the course. Whether you're celebrating a birdie or drowning your sorrows after a missed putt, the friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere make it the perfect place to unwind and soak in the desert vibes.
Affordable Luxury: Compared to other courses of its caliber, Arizona National offers exceptional value. Green fees are surprisingly reasonable, and frequent deals and specials make it even more accessible. Whether you're a local Tucson resident or a visiting golfer, Arizona National provides a world-class experience without breaking the bank.
The Verdict: Whether you're a seasoned golfer seeking a desert challenge or a casual player looking for a scenic escape, Arizona National Golf Course delivers. The stunning setting, strategic layout, and friendly service make it a true gem of Tucson's golfing scene. So grab your clubs, sunscreen, and a sense of adventure, and prepare to be captivated by the magic of Arizona National.
Final Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Me and a few buds who are stationed at ft huachuca took a day trip here. Beautiful course. Some dog legs and drops where you can't see the hole. Full bar at the club house. 1 cooler with ice on each cart. Some courses are pretty narrow and there are houses right on the edge of the course, so watch your ball. Overall outstanding course that I will absolutely be returning to.
